Design of Healthcare Facilities - Expansion and Renovation of the Existing OB/NICU Department at Royal Medical Services (RMS) - King Hussein Medical Center, Amman - Jordan.

Under the Design of Healthcare Facilities Activity, Bitar Consultants implemented the Architectural / Engineering Design Contract for two Obstetrics (OB) Departments, including Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU), listed below:

  • Design Project 1: Expansion and Renovation of the Existing OB/NICU Department at Royal Medical Services (RMS) - King Hussein Medical Center.
  • Design Project 2: Expansion and Renovation of the Existing OB/NICU Department at Al Bashir Hospital.

With an estimated area of 21,741 square meters, the project includes constructing a seven-story building with two basement levels for parking and services.
It will feature various departments such as antenatal and postnatal wards, intensive care units, emergency services, radiology, lecture halls, and administrative offices.

This project is in line with the continuous partnership between USAID and Jordan government in supporting the country’s health sector. This Activity represents an important contribution to developing Jordan’s most challenged healthcare facilities under the pressure of demographic changes. Improving the well-being of mothers, newborns, infants, and children is an important public health objective for USAID.

The scope encompasses comprehensive studies, designs, and tender documents preparation for medical planning, engineering, and equipment selection, emphasizing enhanced medical services for women and newborns across Jordan.

This project is part of the Integrated Health Services and Resilience (IHSR) Program, managed by the Office of Population and Family Health (PFH) that was devised to support the Government of Jordan (GoJ) to advance its healthcare system to cope with the increasing demands for health services in the absence of a nationwide assessment of long-term needs for health infrastructure.

Under this project BC provided the A-E design services at five distinct phases and deliverables:

  • Needs Assessment and Site Selection Phase,
  • Conceptual Design Phase,
  • Intermediate Design Phase,
  • OB/NICU Design Guidelines,
  • Final Design Tendering Package.
