Touristic development in the form of urban regeneration and adaptive reuse of an important urban site next to the famous historic Karak Castle comprising a number of buildings of historic importance. The work included the pedestrianization of a public plaza, hard-scaping and soft-scalping of the open spaces between buildings and pumping touristic functions and services into the buildings by adaptive reuse.
These functions included the following: restaurant, cafeteria, handicraft center, interpretive garden, cultural museum, public toilets and landscaping elements (shades, arcades, gateways, outdoor furniture…). All abandoned heritage buildings were exploited in a sustainable manner to the benefit of the local community of the city; the project connected the famous touristic site of Karak Castle to the main market street in the old town of Karak.
