INTRODUCTION

Expo Dubai 2020

The first Expo to be held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia with many reasons to be counted as one of the most important in exposition history. Expo 2020 will be held from October 2020 through to April 2021. Under the theme, Connecting Minds, Creating the Future, Expo 2020 will consist of three districts, each with its own theme (Mobility, Sustainability, and Opportunity) to recognizes that generating sustainable solutions to global problems demands collaboration across cultures, nations, and regions. 

These themes provide a relevant platform for us to reflect and project Jordan’s reputation and value proposition, beyond natural beauty. Each district is divided into sites and pavilions of varying size, which are allocated to participating countries. Expo 2020 will be more global than any other, it will bring together over 190 nations and attract 25 million visitors over six months — with 70% of visitors forecast to be international business professionals.

Jordan will participate in Expo 2020 to be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where we will deliver a world class pavilion and visitor experience to showcase Jordan’s vision into the future. Under Jordan’s pavilion theme of ‘The Thresholds of Ingenuity’, we will share our values, unique approach to opportunity and sustainability, and our care for people and place. 

The Jordanian pavilion will act as a stage and allow Jordan to present itself to the world in a manner that develops the perception of Jordan in the mind of the international business visitor. It will be the platform to achieve economic, trade, investment, market access, and education outcomes, tourism opportunities, and has the potential to strengthen our bilateral ties with participating countries. 

Jordan’s Expo 2020 Objectives

We would like to emphasize that the main objective concerning the concept design of the Jordanian pavilion is to visualize and present the significance of the moment when the idea was created as part of the theme ‘The Thresholds of Ingenuity’. Jordan is a Small country with big ideas and achievements, entrepreneurial people in every sector of its society and economy.

Our target is to present that to the whole world, which will spend six months closely watching Dubai during the EXPO as a meeting point of our entire civilization. We want to present Jordan’s vast potentials in every sector of society: economy, investment, science, agriculture, transport, culture, health, IT, tourism and much more. In the center of it all is the Jordanian creativity and vision that lays in a free mind, in global thinking, and the mobility of ideas and skills.

We aim to create an unforgettable experience that overcomes the limitations of space and results in am amazing walk through magical spaces that tell an enchanting story condensing history, geography, human achievements and opportunities in a smooth self-oriented tour.

 

DESIGN CONCEPT

Inspirations 

The design of the exhibition area is inspired by the exotic reddish mountains of Petra and wadi rum “Figure 2.1”. Our design abstract the ravines between the mountains of Petra using horizontal wooden panels stacked over each other creating an extra-ordinary setting for the exhibition “Figure 2.2”. The wandering journey through the Jordanian pavilion will make visitors thrilled with astonishment and excitement. The visitor is going to be detached from the outside going through Jordan’s tale throughout history showing the potentials and assets of our country in various sectors.

THEMES SPACE PLANNING - ZONING, CIRCULATION & SCHEMATIC PLANS

Space Planning 

Spaces were organized in the form of a simple one-way maze made up of a sequence of five major spaces, each space will house one or more of the exhibition themes aligned along a story-lined order.  The smooth lines of the parametric tortuous surfaces created a clear organic path that makes the transition from one space to another spontaneous for the visitors “Figure 3.0”.

SIGNAGE & WAY-FINDING

To enhance the visitor’s experience, the signage system must as well be part of the design. It should also add extra value to the journey inside the Jordanian Pavilion. We took the minimal approach in the signage system design in order not to compete with the installation and the whole journey of the visitor.
