Elgee is a traditional vernacular Jordanian Village. It is the old core in the heart of Wadi Mousa town. This project included the restoration of 40 vernacular houses with adaptive reuse in different tourist functions; traditional handicraft souq, vernacular museums, rest rooms, exhibition hall, administration and public services.

The work was executed using the same old building techniques of random stone walls, mud and straw plastering and (bamboo + wood + mud) roofing. The site was supplied with all needed modern services (water, electricity, drainage and telecommunications…). The landscaping of the project was executed in traditional details including wooden pergolas, stone pathways and stairs, traditional exterior lighting fixtures… etc.

The work included a full protection of the wadi side from sliding using Gabion gravity retaining walls; this protection was made after a thorough hydrological and geo-technical study of the site. The owner of the project was the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, and the financer was The World Bank. Our involvement included verifying the design, redesign of major parts of it and supervising the construction.
